UConn coach Calhoun to have surgery
NCAA Basketball Betting Lines
02/22/2012 - Storrs, CT (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Connecticut men's basketball coach Jim Calhoun will miss at least two more games after having surgery to help alleviate the spinal stenosis that forced him to take a medical leave of absence.
Calhoun will undergo the procedure Monday and is expected to be hospitalized for one or two nights, followed by a recovery period at home, the school said Wednesday.
"I'm glad we have finally determined the best course of treatment to deal with the problem," Calhoun said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to having the procedure done, hopefully recovering as quickly as possible, and putting it all in the past."
Calhoun will not coach the Huskies' games against Syracuse on Saturday and at Providence on Tuesday -- the seventh and eighth games the Hall of Famer will miss because of the lower-back condition.
UConn said he would be evaluated on a day-to-day basis after that. Associate head coach George Blaney will remain in charge while Calhoun is away. He has taken the head coach's place since Calhoun first began his leave of absence on February 3.
The Huskies (17-10) have lost seven of their last 10 games.
